Young Woman Falls to Her Death In a Tragic Accident

Rosemary Nirish, a 19-year-old student at Amity University, Panvel, died on 29th January, after falling from the eighth floor of a rental property. This incident occurred at the residence of Nirish's friend Sambit Lambu, who lived in a different building in the same complex.

During the investigation, the Panvel Police discovered a bed sheet tied to the balcony railings. Further investigation revealed that other classmates of Nirish also resided on the seventh floor of the same building. According to Lambu, with the intention of surprising her friends, Nirish accessed the seventh-floor apartment with the aid of the makeshift rope. Her first attempt at coming back to the eighth-floor flat, by landing on the balcony, entering the living room and coming out of the house, was successful.

However, her second attempt proved to be deadly. Nirish’s body was discovered on the complex grounds by a security guard the following Sunday morning. Upon inquiring, it was found that Lambu and others - who were busy shooting a short film for a college project - assumed that she had already left when she was nowhere to be found.

Senior Inspector of the Panvel Taluka police, Anil Patil, concluded that there was no malicious intent. It was also not considered to be a case of suicide, since no note was found. The authorities believe that Nirish’s alleged second attempt at surprising her friends caused her to lose her balance and fall.

An accidental death report has been filed. The authorities also discovered a small amount of marijuana in her apartment and a complaint has been filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act against her classmate, who also lived with her, and was charged with drug use.

Nirish’s guardian and family friend, Sunny Joseph, disclosed that she hailed from Changanassery, a town in Kottayam, Kerala. She is survived by her father, her 17-year-old brother and her six-year-old sister.
