Unidentified body found in Thane water tank
An unidentified male body was found floating in a water tank in the Wagle Estate area on
January 16th at 2:45 pm. The water tank was filled with wastewater that was no longer in use. The body was discovered decomposed and floating in the tank.It was found by a group of boys after a dog fell into the tank by accident.
The police were immediately notified and they arrived at the scene with the disaster management cell.
Avinash Sawant, the chief of the disaster management cell of the area, said that the firemen and the regional disaster team pulled the body out of the tank after it had been drained of all the water.
A similar incident occurred on January 23rd at Shil Lake where a 45-year-old unidentified body
was found at around 11:30 am.Unidentified bodies like these are sent to a government hospital
for post-mortem along with the evidence that is gathered at the scene.
Thane police have a website where bodies of deceased people that are unidentified are posted
along with the details of the location and the image of the victim. The body, after it is processed,
is kept for 72 hours. If they remain unclaimed after that, they are sent for burial or cremation.
