RTO Takes Another Step to Ensure Citizens' Ease

Tardeo, Mumbai

Seven new online services—also known as "faceless services"—have been launched by the Regional Transport Office (RTO). It was an effort made to make things simpler for the populace. Six out of the 50 RTOs in Maharashtra are located in Mumbai.

“The office is usually busy and noisy the whole day. The daily count of people visiting the RTO office is more than 800, and on some days the number even goes above 2000”, said a clerk at the Tardeo RTO office. He also said that the number was higher than before. In his opinion, the audience has slightly diminished as most services are being digitized.

It was observed that a majority of individuals support this new update. They considered the new version helpful and a good addition to the system. “It is good that the services are going online and there is less need for people to visit RTO offices and stand in long queues, which are tiring and exhausting," said Saparna Sahai, who was there at the RTO office for her driving license test.

Some visitors at RTO also noted that even though the services are now available online, filling out the forms has grown complicated and time-consuming because they occasionally remain unfinished or are rejected due to inaccurate data entry. “I have to take leave from the office, especially for RTO work, because the whole day goes on waiting in queues for your turn until you get your work done through an agent there," said Sukesh Patil, who was there for some document work.

RTO is working to provide ease to citizens and so it aims to launch more such digital services in near future which will also benefit in reducing visits.
