33-year-old from Malwani caught for fake notes circulation worth Rs. 60,00

A 33-year-old man from Palghar, was arrested by the Malwani police in Mumbai for having allegedly printed and circulated fake notes of Rs. 200 denominations with a total face value of Rs. 60,000. The accused, Haneef Shaikh (33) has been identified as a painter who works in Malwani, at a local artifact shop.

When the Malwani police were asked about what led them to the discovery of this fake note circulation, sub-inspector Ashok Tambe said, “It was a tip-off that led us to the discovery of such a happening. We were told that a man in a nearby area in Malwani, seems to be giving people double of the amount they gave him. For instance, he would give them a 200 rupee note for a 100 rupee note in exchange. We knew that chasing after Haneef wouldn’t really be an easy thing to do, hence we set him into a trap”.

The police then explained of how the trap was set by two constables who pretended to act as customers interested to crack an artifact deal with Haneef. As the conversation went about, the two constables tried and asked Haneef whether he could help them make money by a scheme they had heard of through rumors. Haneef, instantly gave in and told them that he would give them double the money they handed him if they were interested. On having confirmed his identity, the constables then arrested him and got him to the Malwani Police station in Malad.

When asked about the machine or equipment used by Haneef for the printing of these notes, Senior Inspector Shekhar Bhalerao said, “We tried tracking his mobile phone which gave us the exact location of the printing machine in Naigaon, Palghar. Our team then rushed the same very night and got hold of the machine and other equipment’s used by him”. Inspector Bhalerao further added, “along with the printing machine, we also got hold of a computer, a printer, a scanner and ink that Haneef used in the printing of these notes”.

The accused, Haneef Shaikh was quick to name another accomplice who is yet on the run, however the police seem confident in having him caught soon. The police have stated that as of now, the machine and other equipment’s found, have been sent for further investigation with Haneef being in police custody till the 30th of January, 2023.
