Lollapalooza: The Pressure of Being The First of its Kind

Mumbai: Lollapalooza was staged for the first time in India on the 28th and 29th of January. While some found the festival one of a kind, many people were disappointed after attending it

Initially, with the kind of hype around Lollapalooza India, many people bought the passes in the hope of having a fun time and a great lineup. However, many were disheartened when the artist lineup was released, and people started looking for ways to re-sell their passes “I had a lot of expectations from the Lolla lineup. However, I didn’t find it interesting enough,” said Sanjana Ray, one of the attendees. She further added how she tried reselling the passes but with the lineup in hand, no one was willing to purchase them.

“A lot of us depended on following the crowd as there was a lot of confusion for commuters coming by bus or local,” said Jaishika Thakur. “There was a lot of mismanagement. The organising committee and the volunteers were clueless and misinformed,” said Ishaanvi Singh. “There was a lack of sign boards for assistance, no one knew the exit plan from the festival,” said Aditi Agarwal. She continued by pointing out that despite there being a sizable police presence, crowd control was subpar.

The attendees said the food was very good but extremely overpriced. “We were fooled into buying the VIP passes,” said Anumeha Maheshwari. She further explains how there were no special benefits for the VIP attendees and that the VIP section was far away from the main stage, making it difficult to see the artists perform.

While talking to the audience members, although one could see how it was exciting for them to attend the concert as it was the first of its kind on such a large scale, there was also a major dissatisfaction amongst the crowd. “I don’t think I will attend Lollapalooza in the future, it was fun but very hectic and tiring,” said Agarwal.
