Exams get postponed as the MVKS calls for a statewide protest

Mumbai University has indefinitely postponed all semester exams due to a state-wide strike called by non-teaching staff. The winter session exams were scheduled to begin on February 3, but the strike has disrupted normal functioning. Students are advised to keep an eye on the university's official website for revised exam dates, which will be announced in due course.

The Maharashtra State University and College Employees Joint Action Committee has launched a boycott of examination proceedings from February 2, in protest of the pending demands of the Mumbai Vidyapeeth Karamchari Sangh (MVKS). This decision was made in response to the strike, which was called in support of demands by non-teaching staff. This move has been made in an effort to pressure the authorities to address the concerns of non-teaching staff, who have been grappling with these issues for some time.

The strike has caused inconvenience to students, who are eagerly awaiting the revised exam dates. Anil Raghav, a second-year LLB student, said, “Our exams had already begun, and this notice for postponement has only created confusion." "We do not know when our exams will be conducted, and this will for sure lead to a disruption in the academic schedule all throughout the year.”

A member of the MVKS said, “We will not stop protesting until our demands are met. "We know this is causing problems for the students, but it is important that the authorities understand and make promising decisions.” This comes after the MVKS had an unsuccessful meeting with the Higher and Technical Education Minister of the state, discussing four main problems: the non-implementation of the old pension scheme, the delay in the implementation of the 7th pay commission, the non-payment of arrears, and the inability to fill vacant posts.
