Bhayandar: Truck driver arrested after causing the death of two youngsters
Two youths die in an accident while returning from watching the recently released film 'Pathaan' at Rassaz Multiplex in Mira Road
In a tragic accident on Thursday night, two youth died after slipping from their bike and getting run over by a truck. Abrar Ali Manihar (22) and Tufail Shamim Shah (26) were with their friends and returning home after watching the night show of the movie “Pathaan” at Rassaz Multiplex at Mira Road. According to the Navghar Police, the accident was reported at Golden Nest circle at around 12:30 am.
Both of them suffered severe body fractures and head injuries. Police said that the truck's back trampled over one of them and killed him on the spot while the other was declared dead by on-duty doctors before admission into a nearby hospital. “We have arrested Usman Shaikh, the 45-year-old truck driver and booked him under section 304 (a) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for causing death by negligence,” confirmed Milind Desai, Senior Police Inspector of Navghar police station.
A person from the neighbourhood said that Abrar was a 12th class student in Reena Mehta College while the other Tufail had recently started a business with his father. Amidst deep pain and sorrow, both the victims were buried at the Mira Road Muslim cemetery while further investigations are ongoing.
“Youngsters need to be more careful. These incidents are becoming common and they leave the poor parents mourning,” said head constable Santosh Naik. According to Vivek Bhimanwar, the Transport Commissioner of Maharashtra, casualties in accidents in Maharashtra were mostly between the ages of 18 and 45, and an average of 37 people died every day on roads in 2022.
